About the image cropper

Cropping is the most common image edit. Reframe a photo, cut out distractions at the edges, isolate a subject, fit a specific aspect ratio for a platform. Renza's cropper runs in your browser with interactive drag handles and preset aspect ratios for the most common targets: Instagram square (1:1), Instagram portrait (4:5), Instagram story (9:16), YouTube thumbnail (16:9), Twitter/X header (3:1), Facebook cover (16:6), profile photo (1:1). Custom aspect ratios supported. Output preserves the original format and quality, the crop is just a slice of pixels.

Tips for best results

Things that meaningfully improve the output.

1

Use the platform preset

Pick the platform from the preset dropdown to lock the aspect ratio. Avoids ugly auto-cropping after upload.

2

Rule of thirds

The crop box shows gridlines. Position the main subject at one of the four intersections for a more dynamic composition.

3

Aspect lock

Pick any preset to lock the aspect ratio; the crop box keeps it while you drag the corners. Choose Free to crop without constraints.

4

Then resize

After cropping, you may want to /tools/image-resizer to hit a specific pixel dimension.

Frequently asked questions

Does the image upload anywhere?

No. Cropping happens in your browser, the file never leaves your device.

Will I lose quality?

No. Cropping is just selecting a sub-rectangle of pixels. The remaining pixels keep the exact original quality.

Can I rotate?

Rotation is not in this tool yet. For now use a desktop photo app, most have a built-in rotate.

What about cropping a circle or oval?

This tool crops rectangles. For circular crops (profile photos) crop to a square here, then add an avatar frame in your platform.
