About the photo restoration
Old-photo restoration is one of the most emotionally rewarding AI use cases. People scan a damaged photo of a grandparent, run it through restoration, and see them clearly for the first time in decades. Renza uses Flux Kontext Pro for restoration because it strikes the right balance: it repairs damage and recovers detail without modernising the subject. Some other AI tools 'over-restore' — they smooth skin, change clothing, modernize hair, and the resulting photo looks like a different person. Flux Kontext Pro is more faithful to the original. Common scratches, water damage, faded colors, and slight blur are all handled in a single pass. For severely damaged photos (large missing sections, full discoloration), you may need two passes or some manual touch-up afterward, but most family-album photos restore cleanly in one click. Output is at high resolution suitable for reprinting and framing.

Tips for best results
Things that meaningfully improve the output.
Scan at high DPI before uploading
The better the scan, the better the restoration. Scan at 600 DPI minimum if you can. Phone photos of old prints work but are less ideal.
For black-and-white photos, restore first, then colorize
Run restoration first to fix damage, then use /tools/colorize-photo to add historical color. Two passes = best result.
Severely damaged photos may need two passes
If the first restoration still shows artefacts, run the output through restoration again. Each pass fixes more.
Don't combine with stylisation
Restoration is meant to be faithful. If you want to also stylize (turn the restored photo into a painting, etc.), do that as a second step after restoration.

Frequently asked questions
Will the restored face still look like my grandparent?
Yes. Flux Kontext Pro is faithful to the original. Some other AI tools modernize faces in ways that make them look like different people; we picked Flux Kontext specifically because it doesn't.
Can it recover faded colors?
Yes, partially. Faded color photos get vibrancy back. Heavily yellowed or fully bleached photos may need additional colorisation through /tools/colorize-photo.
Can it fix severely torn photos?
It handles small tears and scratches in one pass. Photos with large missing chunks (like a whole face torn off) may have plausible-but-fabricated reconstruction. Run a second pass or do manual touch-up after.
How long does it take?
5–15 seconds.
Cost?
Around 3 credits per restoration. Credit packs from $4.99.
